Nourishment is given to our body by “Nutrition”. Carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, minerals, proteins and water are all the basic elements of nutrients. The health condition of a person may worsen when one lacks correct balance of nutrients in their food.

Nutrition can be defined as the process of taking in food and using it for growth, metabolism and repairing.

 

 

TYPE OF NUTRIENTS

 

Basically the nutrients can be divided into two major types. They are: Micronutrients and Macronutrients. The macronutrients provide energy and metabolism to the body which is why the body needs it more. The micronutrients are needed only in small amounts by our body.

 

 

MACRONUTRIENTS:

Carbohydrates: The types of carbohydrates are Sugar, Starch and fiber. The carbohydrates are the much needed nutrients of our body.

Proteins: Organic compound such as amino acids are present in proteins and they are naturally occurring substance.

 

Fats: Too much of it may lead to obesity, cholesterol and other health issues. But they also have good benefits like lubricating the joints, help organs produce hormones, enables body to absorb certain vitamins

Water: The human body is totally made up of 60% of water. It is recommended to consume 2 liters water per day. Keeping the body hydrated is very much important.

 

 

Micronutrients:

Minerals: The minerals like carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen are required by our body.

Vitamins: Our body needs small amounts of nutrients like vitamin C, B, A, D, E and K.

Nutrition is the building block of one’s healthy body.A healthy diet containing all nutrients in them promotes normal growth, development and ageing. They help in reducing the risk of chronic disease.  

Lack of any one of the elements may result in many life taking disease conditions like Malnutrition, Kwashiorkor(Type of malnutrition caused due to the deficiency of proteins ), Marasmus, Anemia, Mumps, Osteoporosis and certain types of cancer.

Include leafy and green vegetables in your daily diet. They contain plethora of minerals, fiber and vitamins.

Water

Consume 8-13 cups of water daily for proper digestion of food.
